Ancient Egyptian Pharaoahs – Blondes and Redheads

Some of you may have heard of the “white-washing” conspiracy theory of Western Civilization; that we Whites have depicted legendary blacks as whites in order to remove them from their rightful place in history.  Some of you may have heard things like: Beethoven was black, Roman Emperor Trajan was black, King Tut was black, Pharaoh Ramses was black, Hannibal was black, Cleopatra was black, the Moors were black, Jesus was black and so on.  These are fairy tales.  Not to hurt anyone’s feelings, but these are simply not true and not backed by science.

Perhaps Ancient Egypt’s lower classes had black men and women in them from Nubia, perhaps even middle class.  But the upper classes were full of Blondes and Redheads with blue eyes.  You can evens still see examples of this by looking at Palestinians and Syrians.  Many have light eyes and even light hair.

Here is another example, from Egyptian mythology:

Before they set sail Re drew Horus aside so as to gaze into his blue eyes: for whoever looks into them, of gods or men, sees the future reflected there. But Seth was watching; and he took upon himself the form of a black pig – black as the thunder-cloud, fierce to look at, with tusks to strike terror into the bravest heart.

Even the myths of the pagan Egyptians were a retelling of the more ancient Eurasian pagan myths from the proto-Indo-European Aryans.  We had the same gods with different names and slightly different roles.  But now, let us get down to the science:  Science is never satisfied with hear-say and must go to prove one story or another: were the Pharaohs black or white or somewhere in between?

Let us look at the genetic testing results:

Kinship Analyses

To elucidate the genealogy in Tutankhamun’s family, microsatellite markers were used to achieve genetic fingerprints of all mummies. All 8 females tested were negative for the examined polymorphic Y-chromosomal loci, underlining the specificity of the approach. The repeated search for hemizygous Y alleles in the males yielded few results, with differing success in the various markers contained in the multiplex PCR kit used. Markers DYS393 and Y-GATA-H4 showed identical allele constellations (repeat motif located in the microsatellite allele reiterated 13 and 11 times, respectively) in Amenhotep III, KV55, and Tutankhamun but different allelotypes in the nonrelated CCG61065 sample from TT320 (9 and 9, respectively). Syngeneic Y-chromosomal DNA in the 3 former mummies indicates that they share the same paternal lineage.

The above mentioned markers are R1b haplogroup markers.  R1b is of course Celtic and Germanic — about as white as you can get.

  1. The claims about beethoven are that he is 1/4 or 1/8 black, and the reasoning was his “Musical Genius”, not DNA, I found that almost offensive.
